Since 1977, Vail’s Bottle Shop
It was 1977, the age of disco, and the punk revolt against the
music industry. America was recovering from Vietnam and Nixon
and had just elected a peanut farmer from Georgia. Here in Vail,
the world still seemed far away, despite the fact that President
Ford had put the town squarely on the map by adopting it as his
“Winter White House,” and brought a bunch of his famous friends
in for a couple of rounds of golf in the summer.
The Look Ma bump-off competition was still held every winter
season and up on Vail pass, the Ravinos Motorcycle Club held
their spring arial competition, a right of spring much like the
“Great Race” held at the end of the ski season in Lionshead.
In the wine world, the Judgement of Paris had, just the previous
year, proven that the United States was the rising viticultural
superpower, with Stag’s Leap and Chateau Montelena handily
beating the competition, much to the surprise of the French.
It was into this world that Grappa Fine Wines & Spirits was
born. Over the years, we’ve watched trends come and go…
actually, we’ve watched entire city blocks come and go! Some
things, though, never change: A family owned business then as
now, we’ve built our reputation on customer service, selection,
reliability and friendliness.
We look forward to welcoming you to Grappa Fine Wines & Spirits
and Vail’s only wine cellar!
